Guide for Audible Sound of Liquid-Immersed Power Transformers

active, Most Current
Organization: IEEE
Publication Date: 5 June 2023
Status: active
Page Count: 40
scope:

This document provides information on sound producing sources in liquid-immersed power transformers. Methods are described for achieving various levels of sound reduction in transformer design, manufacturing, and on site.

Purpose

This guide supplements other IEEE documents related to sound levels of power transformers. IEEE Std C57.12.00™ defines sound levels and IEEE Std C57.12.90™ describes factory test procedures.6 The purpose of this guide is to provide practical information about sound level and reduction techniques to assist users and manufacturers in the proper specification, design, manufacturing, testing, and application of liquid-immersed power transformers. This guide does not cover shunt reactors, dry-type, or distribution transformers. This is due to the many different issues related to sound level determination. It is up to the reader to determine applicability of the material in this guide to such equipment.

6Information on references can be found in Clause 2.
