Fiber Optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) Interrogator Standard— Terminology and Definitions

active, Most Current
Organization: IEEE
Publication Date: 5 June 2023
Status: active
Page Count: 24
scope:

The scope of this document is to provide definitions and explanations of terms relating to the use of distributed acoustic sensor (DAS) interrogators. It also offers a list of key performance parameters critical to describe fully a DAS-based sensor system and to allow the end user readily to compare systems from different suppliers.

Existing standards and definitions are used wherever possible. In addition, explicit links will be made between terms which are used commonly in internationally agreed metrology terminology.

Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to clarify definitions so that ambiguity in specifications can be eliminated to facilitate broad usage of DAS sensing systems in a multiplicity of applications including smart civil structures, avionics, security, defense, transportation, energy, and environmental monitoring.
