The boiler safety valves covered by this specification are intended for installation at the superheater outlet or on the steam drum with the pilot assembly located remotely from the boiler and unloader valve. This provides features for ease of maintenance, shipboard level repair capability for satisfactory replacement of moving parts, high service time to leakage rate ratio, simplified ease of setting features, cold pilot setting ability, and a built-in gagging feature. The valve uses boiler fluid as the working fluid and operates completely without any auxiliary means of power such as air or electricity. These valves have safety and construction characteristics in excess of similar commercial items, making them suitable for use aboard Naval vessels. Current stock of boiler safety valves may be used until depleted; future requisitions for boiler safety valves should refer to the current version of this specification.
