scope:

This Specification details the conditions of electrical interference under which telecommunications equipment is required to operate and the standard of performance required from the equipment under such conditions. This Specification applies to all equipment which is to be connected to cable conductors subjected to electrical interference.

Where specific protection devices are required, either as integral parts of the equipment or as additional items external to the equipment, such devices will be detailed in the appropriate technical specification or specification of works. This Specification applies to new equipment and systems. It is not retrospective.

Purpose

This document is to provide guidance on the electrical environment found on the railways and define the requirements which ensure satisfactory operation of equipment.
