ITU-T - SERIES L SUPP 57

(Pre-Published) ITU-T L.1420 - Scope 3 Guidance for telecommunication operators

active, Most Current
Organization: ITU-T
Publication Date: 1 June 2023
Status: active
Page Count: 64
scope:

This supplement to L.1420-series of Recommendations gives guidance for telecommunication operators to assess their Scope 3 emissions. This guidance has been jointly developed with GeSI and GSMA.

It harmonises methods for telecommunication operators to assess and report their Scope 3 GHG emissions, and to increase its coverage, and transparency. Based on criteria including association with the portfolios, control and complexity of reporting, this guidance prioritises Categories 1 to 2 and 11 of the GHG Protocol (which addresses the life cycle impact of company portfolios) in particular and Category 3 (which is closely linked to Scope 1 and 2), although all Categories are addressed.

This guidance is intended to supplement, not supersede, existing standards. Thus, different parts present various levels of detailed guidance, as needed.

Its technical content is equivalent to the technical content of the joint publication "Scope 3 Guidance for telecommunication operators" to be released in June 2023 jointly by GSMA GeSI and ITU-T.
