Scope and Applicability.

This instruction applies to all shore-based NW facilities identified in reference (b).

Purpose.

a. To delineate Department of the Navy (DON) responsibilities and procedures for certifying shore-based nuclear weapons (NW) facilities, facility designated equipment and designated equipment that interface with the Ship Submersible Ballistic Nuclear for NW security as determined by the technical authority (Director, Strategic Systems Programs (DIRSSP)).

b. To incorporate reference (a) to include the responsibilities for the Director, Naval Nuclear Weapons Program (CNO N00NW) and update the responsibilities for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Warfare Systems (CNO N9) and DIRSSP and provide clarification of major repair and significant modification.

c. This is a complete revision and should be reviewed in its entirety.
