Railway Group Standard GO/RT3440 details mandatory controls for the operation of steam locomotives for both the Infrastructure Manager and Railway Undertakings. This standard details Network Rail's specific responsibilities and applies in respect of all steam hauled trains operating on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure. This includes steam locomotives running light or with a support vehicle, and steam locomotives hauled dead or in light steam.

Purpose

This standard has been created to enable Network Rail functions to plan correctly for steam locomotive/train operation on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure.
