AWPA - A12

WOOD DENSITIES FOR PRESERVATIVE RETENTION CALCULATIONS

inactive
Organization: AWPA
Publication Date: 1 January 2009
Status: inactive
Page Count: 3
scope:

Most of the analytical methods used for determining biocide retentions in treated wood are carried out on a weight/weight basis. These retentions are then converted to a weight/volume basis using average wood density values. This Standard gives the average values for wood densities of the wood species or species groupings listed in the AWPA Use Category System Standards for use in biocide retention calculations for all applicable AWPA "A" Standards. More accurate sample retentions can be obtained by using the specific gravity of the untreated wood. When this option is used, the specific gravities should be determined in accordance with ASTM Standard D2395.
