This standard specifies the process for undertaking hazardous substance risk assessments at Network Rail locations not covered by an appropriate functional Level 3 Standard.

NOTE: Level 3 Standards are available for; Infrastructure Maintenance, Managed Stations, Operations and Customer Services and the National Delivery Service (NDS).

It applies to all substances, preparations and products deemed as hazardous that are used by Network Rail employees.

COSHH risk assessments referred to within this standard are assessments of the risks to the health and safety of identified workers during the use of or exposure to a hazardous substance.

All COSHH risk assessments referred to within this standard are to be produced using the Sypol COSHH Management System, unless stated otherwise.

Purpose

This Network Rail standard specifies a consistent approach to the requirements contained within the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) and NR/L2/OHS/00103 Occupational Health and Safety Manual - Specialist Risk Assessment - Hazardous Substances, across all Network Rail sites.
