scope:
This document covers the provisions necessary to enable the procedures to be followed within those areas and for those tasks to which local isolation instructions apply. It amplifies, but in no way modifies the requirements of BR 29987.
The requirements of this document need not be applied retrospectively but whenever alterations are made to an existing electrification they shall be applied where reasonably practicable.
Purpose
At certain locations work on electric traction, loading or unloading of wagons, or maintenance of adjacent equipment (e.g. carriage washing plants), requiring isolation and earthing of the O.H.L., is carried out at frequent intervals.
To facilitate this work Instructions 42 and 52 of the Working Instructions for A.C. Electrified Lines BR 29987 permit local isolations to be carried out without using the procedure contained in Instructions 31 to 34.
Instruction 42 details the Procedure for sidings whilst instruction 52 details the Procedure for Electric Traction depots.
At all such locations "Local Isolation and Earthing Instructions" shall be prepared to cover the detailed procedures to be followed when the O.H.L. is to be isolated and earthed to allow local isolations to be carried out.
