NR - RT/LS/G/00023 ISSUE 1

Best Practicable Means: Control of Noise and Vibration from Construction Operations (aka NR/GN/ENV/00023)

inactive
Organization: NR
Publication Date: 1 April 2003
Status: inactive
Page Count: 11
scope:

This guidance note applies where there are works to be carried out by Network Rail or its contractors which may create a noise nuisance. It should be referred to in conjunction with Network Rail Company Guidance Note RT/LS/G/00022 (Construction Noise Mitigation through the Section 61 Consent Process).

Purpose

The purpose of this environmental guidance note is to provide a reference for contractors wishing to implement best practicable means (BPM) in controlling noise and vibration on construction sites. This may be as part of a Section 61 Consent application, to develop or meet a code of practice agreed with a local authority or simply to implement and demonstrate best practice in minimising construction noise. For guidance on the Section 61 consent process, please refer to the separate company guidance note RT/LS/G/00022 - Construction Noise Mitigation through the Section 61 Consent Process. This informs the contractor of the reasons for applying for a Section 61 consent, the benefits such an approach can bring and the appropriate level of detail and the scope of issues which should be considered in the submission of a Section 61 application.
