Purpose/Material Description.

This standard specifies the requirements for glass fiber reinforced, heat stabilized, flame retardant polyamide 66 (Nylon 66) resins and any alloys of polyamide for high voltage insulation purposes. Materials approved to this specification shall have a halogen and metal free heat stabilizer package and a halogen free flame retardant package.

Symbols.

The material abbreviations in accordance with ISO 1043-1 and ISO 11469 are shown in Table 1.

Applicability.

High voltage (60 VDC to 600 VDC) insulation, both Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC).

Remarks.

Materials are classified according to chemistry, percent reinforcement, and continuous temperature limit. Types listed in the following list will be added as the types become necessary.

• Type A1 - Semi-aromatic polyamide - continuous use temp 125 °C

• Type A2 - Semi-aromatic polyamide - continuous use temp 150 °C

• Type B1 - Polyamide 66 - continuous use temp 125 °C

• Type B2 - Polyamide 66 - continuous use temp 150 °C

• Type C2 - Polyphthalamide - continuous use temp 180 °C
