This guidance note applies to all contractors undertaking noisy works on the railway which may cause a nuisance. This could be due to reasons such as the timing of the works (e.g. night-time working), the level of noise that may be produced or the proximity of local residents.

Purpose

The purpose of this guidance document is to provide an overview of how the risks from construction noise can be mitigated by obtaining consent under Section 61 of the Control of Pollution Act, 1974 (COPA) and in particular the benefits of this approach and a recommended course of action for securing a Section 61 consent.
