scope:
This procedure is mandatory and covers all planned general inspections undertaken by the Maintenance function on:
a. Work sites where Maintenance staff or their contractors are working.
b. Occupied/unoccupied land and buildings where Maintenance has controlling responsibility.
c. Owned, leased or long term hired vehicles.
The scope of this procedure does not include:
• The detailed arrangements for On Track Plant inspections.
• Other formally required asset inspections or checks detailed in Company standards and procedures e.g. Asset Condition Inspections.
• Legally required statutory inspections of plant, equipment or systems for which alternative arrangements must be in place e.g. Lifting Tackle. Condition checks on this plant and equipment are included in the scope of this procedure, however, and shall be conducted as part of the general building / worksite checks that are undertaken.
Purpose
This procedure defines the process for planning, conducting and reporting planned health, safety and environmental general inspections in the Maintenance function to check that formal controls are being implemented and unsafe acts or conditions are identified. The aim is also to check the management system is effective and to identify changes to be made that will improve and develop the business.
