scope:
This standard applies to the natural ventilation and fan-assisted ventilation of dwellings and similarly used groups of rooms (dwelling units).
This standard specifies requirements on the planning, design and commissioning, and the operation and maintenance of the required ventilation components and/or units for natural ventilation systems and fanassisted ventilation systems, making due allowance for aspects of construction engineering physics, ventilating, hygiene and energy utilization.
In addition, the standard also specifies a marking scheme for natural ventilation systems and fan-assisted ventilation systems.
This standard does not apply to active cooling1) air treatment methods nor to active humidification and dehumidification.
Standard DIN 18017-3, which is based on Bauaufsichtliche Richtlinie über die Lüftung fensterloser Küchen, Bäder und Toilettenräume in Wohnungen (BRL), additionally applies for the ventilation of rooms without windows
1) As regards the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), 2002/91/EC, cooling in residential buildings has been temporarily included by defining energy-related characteristic values. For such operating modes, particular attention is to be paid to condensation and hygiene issues.
