This procedure applies to all new and expectant mothers, line managers, and supervisors within all functions of Network Rail.

Purpose

This procedure defines the process of identifying hazards and assessing risks at work that may affect the health and safety of new and expectant mothers and of their child (ren). Working conditions normally considered acceptable may no longer be so during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. This procedure is in response to the requirements of Regulation 16 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Implementation of it will enable Network Rail to comply with its legal obligations under the regulations and meet its duty of care for new and expectant mothers.
