This procedure applies to all parties involved in the removal of ballast and rail network infrastructure materials from the track and its transport and delivery to the nominated Local Distribution Centre.
Purpose
This document sets out a standardised approach and uniform procedures to be used in planning and execution of engineering work which involves the removal of used railway ballast and used railway infrastructure material. The purpose of these procedures, which have been agreed with the Environment Agency (EA) in England and Wales and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), in Scotland, is to guard against pollution and to fulfill statutory requirements, such as the Duty of Care.
