Questa Norma tratta la sicurezza delle unità di alimentazione a commutazione e trasformatori per unità di alimentazione a commutazione. Anche i trasformatori che incorporano circuiti elettronici rientrano in questa Norma.
La Norma in oggetto sostituisce completamente la Norma CEI EN 61558-2-17:1998-12, che rimane applicabile fino al 01-10-2012.
La presente Norma viene utilizzata congiuntamente alla Norma CEI EN 61558-1:2006-09.
