Thread inserts to this Standard are used for manufacturing high-strength, wear-resistant and exchangeable bolted connections in metallic and non-metallic materials and for repairing stripped or damaged threads.

They may be used in connection with bolts having ISO metric threads or MJ threads (see table).

Thread inserts with surface treatment according to code letter A are suitable for use at temperatures up to 235 °C
