This standard covers the requirements for the protection of information technology equipment and information technology equipment areas.

* Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to set forth the minimum requirements for the protection of information technology equipment and information technology equipment areas from damage by fire or its associated effects - namely, smoke, corrosion, heat, and water.

Application. The application of this standard is based on the risk considerations outlined in Chapter 4. The mere presence of the information technology equipment shall not constitute the need to invoke the requirements of this standard.
