This standard covers the procedures for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of acoustic absorber materials, acoustic reflector materials, and acoustic decoupler materials. It is important that the acoustical materials and treatments not be confused with vibration damping materials. Procedures for the installation, maintenance and repair of vibration damping materials shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-2148 and not as discussed herein.

This standard and the installation procedures herein shall apply to acoustic materials as specified in 1.2.
