Diese Europäische Norm legt allgemeine Anforderungen an die Leistungsfähigkeit von Messverfahren zur Bestimmung der Konzentration chemischer Arbeitsstoffe in der Arbeitsplatzatmosphäre fest, wie seitens der Richtlinie über chemische Arbeitsstoffe 98/24/EG (siehe Literaturhinweis [7]) gefordert. Diese Anforderungen gelten für alle Messverfahren, unabhängig vom physikalischen Zustand des chemischen Arbeitsstoffes (Gas, Dampf, luftgetragene Partikel), vom Probenahmeverfahren und vom eingesetzten Analyseverfahren.

Diese Europäische Norm gilt für

- alle Schritte eines Messverfahrens,

- Messverfahren mit voneinander unabhängigen Probenahme- und Analyseschritten, und

- direkt anzeigende Messgeräte.
