scope:
The equipment covered by this specification is a solid-state medium-speed Digital Data Communications System (DACOM) to be installed in the National Airspace System (NAS). Part 1 of this specification contains construction and performance requirements applicable to all equipment of the system. Terminal equipment (digital modems) of the DACOM are mounted in cabinet-type racks for installation at remote radar facilities and at FAA Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC). The equipment when used in conjunction with voice-bandwidth communications channels will provide for transmission of digital information from common processor equipment located at radar sites to FAA ARTCC's and Air Defense Centers, or interchange of air traffic control messages between ARTCC's.
