scope:
The criteria laid down in this standard serve to evaluate the corrosion behaviour of unprotected metallic materials and coatings subject to galvanic corrosion in sea water at ambient temperature. Since the chemical composition of the sea water as well as the extent and the type of fouling are not constant through all seasons and the mechanical loads acting on the materials are not constant within a given time period, the estimated corrosion behaviour can only be stated in terms of probability. Warranty claims cannot be derived from these normative criteria.
Corrosion protection obtained by coatings as well as the cathodic corrosion protection is not subject of this standard.
