WRC - BULLETIN 200

ANALYSIS OF TEST DATA ON BRANCH CONNECTIONS EXPOSED TO INTERNAL PRESSURE AND OR EXTERNAL COUPLES

active, Most Current
Organization: WRC
Publication Date: 1 November 1974
Status: active
scope:

Results of tests on four plain pipes, fourteen tees and ten 45" laterals, conducted by the authors are analyzed, experimental procedures are described and errors are discussed. Data are coordinated using load-displacement and load-strain curves as well as tables. Trends in elastic strain distributions disturbed by the intersection are discussed and some estimates of elastic strain concentration factors are made. Data are used mainly to evaluate limit loads and to show limitations of limit design due to plastic instability observed on tees exposed to external couples. A complete set of data on all tests described in this work is available at Oak Ridge National Laboratory
