A new diagram to predict the ferrite number (FN) in stainless steel welds is proposed in this Bulletin. The Diagram has a range from 0 to 100 FN and more accurately predicts the ferrite content for welds having a FN less than 18. The database contains over 950 welds and is included as an appendix to the report. Publication of this report - WRC Bulletin No. 342 was sponsored by the Subcommittee on Welding Stainless Steel of the High Alloys Committee of the Welding Research Council.
