WRC - BULLETIN 348

REPAIR WELDING OF SERVICE EXPOSED CR-MO STEEL WELDMENTS

active, Most Current
Organization: WRC
Publication Date: 1 November 1989
Status: active
scope:

The intent of this Welding Research Council Grant-in-Aid program was to evaluate the effect of repair welding of service exposed chromium-molybdenum steel weldments. Two pipe sections of service exposed 2 1/4Cr-1Mo and 1 1/4Cr-1/2Mo weldments, incorporating a longitudinal SAW seam weld were repair welded, tested, and evaluated. Publication of this report - WRC Bulletin No. 348 was sponsored by the University Research Committee of the Welding Research Council. Elevated temperature piping failures have prompted the need for NDE of piping systems in service. The results of the NDE often dictate repair by welding. Since little has been documented on the metallurgical integrity of weld repair, this study was undertaken under a grant from the Welding Research Council.
