This WRC Bulletin is the final report on a project initiated to integrate the technical information generated in the USSR on residual stresses and distortion in welded structures. The document is devoted to

- experimental methods of studying residual stresses and distortion in welds

- control of residual stresses and distortion in welded structures

- residual stresses and distortion in circular welds

- transverse shrinkage

- angular distortion

The report provides a brief explanation of the Soviet alloys referred to in the report and includes a References section which lists 886 publications, issued mainly in the former USSR, relating to the areas covered in the Bulletin. The project from which this Bulletin stems was a cooperative effort of MIT and the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute, Kiev, and was cooperatively funded by WRC and AWS. The publication of this Bulletin - WRC Bulletin No. 388 was sponsored by WRC
