This Bulletin is part of a series that describe technology being developed that will be proposed for inclusion in the 2007 edition of Section VIII, Division 2 (Div. 2 Rewrite). The Improved Flange Design Project identifies areas of possible improvement, develops rules for those areas of improvement into the code and verifies newly developed rules for technology. Three new goals for new rules are: bolted flanges that are fit for purpose (safe); less prone to leakage; simple and practical methods of design. This project is structured in three phases; the focus of this report is the first phase - to summarize the status of flange design on a world-wide basis
