Pilot working

active, Most Current
Organization: LUL
Publication Date: 30 March 2010
Status: active
Page Count: 4
scope:

General

When a train operator does not have full working knowledge of any section of line over which their train is to work, they must ask for a pilot to provide them with this knowledge.

The pilot is responsible for providing the train operator with the local information necessary for them to drive their train safely over the section of line concerned.

The rule books incorrectly stated that the pilot was responsible for the safe working of the train. The safe working of the train remains the responsibility of the train operator, who will use the information the pilot gives to help them do this.

To clarify this situation, the amendments shown on the following pages must be made to Rule Book 6, General train operations and Rule Book 19, Station supervisor's responsibilities - dealing with train incidents.
