This specification covers the type testing of lubricant properties during product acceptance and routine control / monitoring of the lubricant following product acceptance.

Purpose

This product specification defines the minimum requirements for rail curve lubricants used by Network Rail to lubricate:

• the wheel-rail interface between the wheel flange and the rail gauge corner (active interface);

• the wheel-rail interface between the wheel flange and check rails fitted to tighter radius curves;

applied via approved trackside and rail mounted lubricator equipment.
