Essential requirements for gas equipment Part 2: Certification
|Publication Date:||19 December 2012|
This Standard sets out requirements for gas equipment to ensure that the equipment-
(a) is constructed in accordance with good engineering practice in regard to safety and other requirements; and
(b) does not endanger the safety of persons (particularly children, the elderly and people with disabilities), domestic animals or property when properly installed, maintained and used in applications for which it is designed.
The essential requirements as set out in this Standard represent the minimum safety and other requirements for gas equipment. Other issues related to fitness for purpose, serviceability, installation and certification are covered in relevant Standards.
Gas equipment specifically designed for use in industrial processes carried out on industrial premises is excluded.
This Standard covers all gas appliances and components supplied with them, that use, or are designed or intended to use, gas, whether or not they also use, or are designed or intended to use, any other form of energy.
NOTE: This standard covers only safety requirements applicable under gas safety legislation. Gas appliances may also be subject to other legislation, such as Electricity (Safety) Regulations, the Fair Trading Act and the Consumer Guarantees Act.
Small production gas appliances and specialised gas appliances are excluded; these are covered by NZS 5266(Int).
This Standard does not cover equipment wherein gas is used as an automotive fuel, nor does it cover gas appliances specifically excluded by virtue of section 3 of the Gas Act. NOTES:
1 Gas appliances used in metal working and fuelled exclusively by acetylene or any prescribed gas, and gas appliances designed to be fuelled exclusively from a container not exceeding 120 millilitres in capacity are excluded from this Standard.
2 The Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations should be consulted, particularly on specific requirements related to the certification of repairs and modifications of gas appliances.
