Introduction and Scope
This document defines Quality of Service (QoS) metrics and their applications and measurement points for Content on Demand (CoD) Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) services as defined in ATIS-0800042, IPTV Content on Demand Service [8]. These metrics generally facilitate performance measurement or monitoring, unlike the fault codes in ATIS-0800028, Fault Codes for IPTV, which generally indicate hard faults. QoS metrics for public services are defined in ATIS-0800011, QoS Metrics for Public Services, and MPEG stream-layer QoS metrics are defined in ATIS-0800040, IPTV MPEG Transport Stream Monitoring.
Referring to Figure 1, the metrics defined in this document are focused toward the interface (5) between the Network Provider (2) and the Consumer (1).
The following items are in scope for this document:
• QoS metrics for CoD IPTV services as defined in ATIS-0800042 [8].
• Unicast services.
• QoS metrics for CoD services using adaptive streaming over HTTP (e.g., DASH [32]).
For further study:
• Multicast, non-linear, or broadcast-based services.
Out of scope:
• Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics.
