This interim Standard applies to gas installations as defined in the Gas Act.
Verification by inspection and testing is intended, as far as reasonably practicable, to determine that the installation is not in an unsafe condition and is suitable for use.
Purpose
The purpose of this interim Standard is to verify the safety of existing gas installations by assessing their compliance with the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations.
Verification of safety will be achieved by:
(a) Focusing on the required performances that are specified in AS/NZS 5601, and NZS 5266(Int);
(b) Identifying areas of non-conformance and areas requiring improvement to ensure that installations are not unsafe to operate and is suitable for continued use;
(c) Identifying common acceptable solutions (for example, systems, processes, and methods in AS/NZS 5601) appropriate to the installation that will attain the desired performances;
(d) Identifying alternative solutions that achieve the same performance while providing safe installations to consumers.
