Purpose
This chapter provides procedures for the administration and payment of the special separation benefits programs to mid-career service members of the Military Services in overstrength inventories. Special Separation Benefits (SSB) and Voluntary Separation Incentives (VSI) benefits are authorized in Title 10, United States Code (U.S.C.), sections 1174a and 1175. The applicable period for SSB and VSI was January 1992 through October 1995. Both options require member affiliation with a Reserve Component. See Volume 7A, Chapter 35 for detailed information on SSB/VSI benefits, entitlements, and eligibility requirements.
