Scope and Purpose

This document describes the architecture of the ANSI/TIA-PN-4957 Smart Utility Networks standards suite.

The TIA ANSI/TIA PN-4957 family of specifications defines the Physical, Data Link, Network and Transport communication protocol layers required to support a range of Smart Utility Network (SUN) Applications from small Home Area Network (HAN) deployments through to large scale Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Networks and Distribution Automation (DA) Networks. Flexibility is provided to enable systems to be optimized for particular applications and regulatory domains.
