MODUK - DEF STAN 03-5

Electroless Nickel Coating of Metals

inactive
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 1 January 1987
Status: inactive
Page Count: 25
scope:

This Standard specifies the requirements for the deposition of electroless nickel coatings on metal surfaces by the chemical reduction of a nickel salt in aqueous solutions. Other methods of producing nickel coatings, eg by the deposition of nickel from nickel carbonyl or by the chemical reduction of nickelous oxide, are not covered by this Standard.

Electroless nickel is normally applied for resistance to wear. Adequate thickness also confers resistance to corrosion. The process produces coatings of greater uniformity on irregular and threaded items, holes, and recesses that electrodeposited nickel, provided the solution circulates freely over such surfaces.
