scope:
This Part of the Defence Standard specifies the documentation that shall be used when recording a package design and includes instructions for the completion of the Services Packaging Instruction Sheet (SPIS).
The SPIS design sheet is only required for those items being packaged to a military level or a special to contents container. It should not be used for commercial packaging.
All military packaging design work shall only be undertaken by a certificated 'Military Packager Approval Scheme' (MPAS) designer working for a MPAS registered organisation (as listed in 'MPAS Part 3) or can demonstrate that their Quality Assurance arrangements and military package design expertise is of an equivalent standard.
A new SPIS design Issue is required whenever there is a new item to be packaged to a MLP or there is a significant change in the; requirement, packaging method or the item to be packaged; e.g., a change in Military Level is a change in the requirement and therefore requires a new design.
Note: This also applies to codified, Special to Contents Containers (STCC).
