This Standard applies to complete, vent- (flue-) connected, oil-fired warm air appliances, irrespective of the heating capacity or the type of burner used.

This Standard applies to appliances

(a) intended for installation with the base of the appliance placed on the floor;

(b) intended to be used with pipes or ducts for the distribution of the heated air; and

(c) employing forced circulation of the heated air. 

This Standard also applies to

(a) downflow furnaces;

(b) duct furnaces;

(c) horizontal furnaces;

(d) in-line furnaces;

(e) unit heaters; and

(f) upflow furnaces.

Requirements for heating/cooling appliances primarily for outdoor installation are specified in Clause 10. 

This Standard is written in SI (metric) units. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 

In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard, and "can" is used to express possibility or capability.
