scope:
This Standard provides basic procedures for the determination of the lateral resistance and stiffness of truss plate teeth embedded in lumber members.
This Standard also provides basic procedures for the determination of the lateral resistance and stiffness of nails embedded in lumber members when used in nail-on truss plates. When this Standard is to be so applied, the word "tooth" shall be replaced by the word "nail".
This Standard also provides basic procedures for the determination of the tensile and shear strengths of the net section of the plates.
The testing method and procedures described herein are designed to establish the lateral resistance of teeth based on ultimate load or a limiting slip of the joint and the ultimate tensile and shear strengths of the net section of truss plates. The ultimate capacities so obtained and corrected for the variations in the ultimate tensile strength of the plate material used in the manufacture of the test truss plates, divided by the appropriate factors of safety, will yield allowable values for design.
