Water quality - Bio-indicator of potential toxicity in aqueous media - Determination of the potential toxicity of aqueous samples on bivalve embryo-larval development

pending, Most Current
Organization: DS
Status: pending
Page Count: 26
ICS Code (Examination of biological properties of water): 13.060.70
scope:

This International Standard specifies a test that uses the embryo-larval development of marine bivalves as a tool to assess the potential toxicity of chemicals or aqueous samples. It allows the determination of the concentration levels that result in an abnormality in embryo-larval development. This test is valid for salinity levels of between 20 and 40 for mussels and between 25 and 35 for oysters. This method applies to: . chemical substances and preparations; . marine and brackish waters; . streams and aqueous effluents (urban, agricultural, industrial effluents, etc.) as long as the salinity is adjusted and/or dilution is limited so that the aforementioned salinity ranges are respected; . aqueous extracts (pore water, elutriates, eluates, leachates, ...) from sediments and petroleum products.
