This standard is intended to cover the com· plete general and dimensional data for the various types of hexagon and spline (fluted) socket cap screws, shoulder screws, set screws and hexagon and spline keys recognized as "American Standard .... Also included are appen· dixes which provide formulas on which dimen· sional data are based, specifications for hexagon socket gages and gaging, and tables show· ing applicability of keys and bits to various socket screw types and sizes. It shall be un· derstood, however, that where questions arise concerning acceptance of product, the dimen· sions in the tables shall govern over recalcula· tion by formula. It should be noted that standards for other hexagon and spline socket products are covered in other publications.

The inclusion of dimensional data in this standard is not intended to imply that all of the products described are stock production sizes. Consumers are requested to consult with manu· facturers concerning lists of stock production sizes.
