This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense
The requirements for acquiring the product described herein shall consist of this specification sheet and the issue of the following specification listed in that issue of the Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards (DODISS) specified in the solicitation: MIL-B-1563.
MATERIAL: Red brass
DIMENSIONS:
HEIGHT (At highest point): 1 inch (2.54 cm) (REF)
WIDTH (At widest point): 1-¼ inch (3.18 cm) (REF)
THICKNESS (On eagles head): .064 inch ± .005 inch (0.162 cm ± 0.012 cm)
FINISH: Gold plated, matte finish, burnished highlights.
TEST FOR GOLD PLATING: One minute acid test.
MARKING FOR IDENTIFICATION: Back of insignia.
PACKAGING: Commercial in accordance with applicable requirements of ASTM-D-3951. If Level A packaging is specified in requisition documents, packaging shall be as follows:
UNIT PACKAGING: Two branch of service insignia shall be mounted on a 2-½ × 2 inch (6.35 cm × 5.08 cm) card and wrapped.
INTERMEDIATE PACKAGING: 100 mounted cards per box.
NOTE: Attaching device shall be prong and clutch type. Prongs shall be located on the vertical centerline, equidistance from each end and ¾ inch ± 1/32 inch (1.91 cm ± 0.08 cm) apart.
