GENERAL

This catalogue is published as an aid to smoke and obscurant researchers within the NATO nations. The models listed in the catalogue include the effects of natural and man-made obscurants on electro-optical (EO) and millimeter-wave systems. The purpose of the catalogue is to enable the nations to understand the impact of smoke and obscurants on the battlefield. It is envisioned that this catalogue will encourage exchange of information, prevent duplication of effort and result in more realistic models and simulations. The models range from scientific basic principles models to wargames. The preliminary catalogue includes as cross reference of model type versus obscurant(s). In addition it includes the title, purpose, sponsor, nation, a point of contact with a telephone number.

This version of the catalogue will be reviewed and edited by the NATO nations of AC1225 Land Group 6 1 Sub-Group 7as part of its mission. The goal of Sub-Group 7 is to develop a document that can provide the nations with the necessary tools to facilitate exchange of information and to attain some degree of standardization. These models have been developed by NATO countries, but it may be that all models listed in the catalogue are not available to everyone who may have access to this catalogue.
