Scope and Objectives

The recommended practices contained in this document apply to the flushing and cleaning of lubricating oil systems for gas turbine driven generator units of 1000 KW and larger.

The lubricating oil system of the gas turbine provides lubrication, surface protection, cooling, sealing and hydraulic control. It is important that the oil system be clean for the satisfactory performance of these functions.

The objective is to establish minimum recommendations for flushing and cleaning gas turbine generator lubricating oil systems during manufacture, erection and at overhaul, and this practice is presented in this manner.

This practice is intended to aid the equipment manufacturer, the erector, the operator, and the oil supplier in coordinating their efforts toward obtaining a clean oil system.

These procedures are based upon current practices that have been found satisfactory. Of necessity, they are generalized because of variations in equipment, builder's practices, and operating conditions.
