Organization: | NFPA |
Publication Date: | 1 January 2014 |
Status: | inactive |
Page Count: | 79 |
scope:
This standard applies to the design, installation, operation, maintenance, and testing of systems for the prevention of explosions by means of the following methods:
(1) Control of oxidant concentration
(2) Control of combustible concentration
(3) Predeflagration detection and control of ignition sources
(4) Explosion suppression
(5) Active isolation
(6) Passive isolation
(7) Deflagration pressure containment
(8) Passive explosion suppression
Purpose.
This standard shall cover the minimum requirements for installing systems for the prevention of explosions in enclosures that contain flammable concentrations of flammable gases, vapors, mists, dusts, or hybrid mixtures.
This standard shall provide basic information for design engineers, operating personnel, and authorities having jurisdiction.
To meet a minimum level of reliability, explosion prevention and control systems provided in accordance with the requirements of this standard shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
(1) Design system verification through testing
(2) Design documentation
(3) System acceptance
(4) Management of change
(5) Regular testing and maintenance
