This technical report discusses the distribution of frequency and time in an intra office environment. This document describes various packet-based techniques which augment work in previous ATIS documents that have covered in the intra-office frequency distribution using traditional physical layer techniques. This document also introduces the concept of extending the office distribution to remote extra-office locations receiving their synchronization from an office facility. This document does not address inter-office synchronization distribution.

T1.TR.81-2003, Synchronization Network Architecture (April 2003), is the principal document that covers the existing intra-office and inter-office frequency synchronization distribution. ATIS-0900001, Synchronization of Packet Networks (May 2007), addresses issues for meeting the requirements of frequency distribution over packet networks.

Since this is a technical report, the interfaces, protocols, and requirements are not defined. Technical details can be found in normative references from ITU, IEEE, or ATIS.
