This document defines the electrical characteristics, protocol and data content for a data bus used with cabin electronics equipment. This document defines a mandatory command set and an optional command set.
This document describes functional requirements of the head end equipment as they relate to the communication over the bus. However, this document is not a complete functional specification of the head end equipment.
This document does not define the equipment environmental requirements. This document does not define the physical description of the equipment. This document does not define the IFE system architecture, design, or operation.
Purpose
The ARINC Specification 628 Cabin Equipment Interfaces document is comprised of four parts. Part 1 discusses the Head End Equipment (source units), Part 2 discusses the Seat End equipment, Part 3 discusses the Airplane Systems to Inflight Entertainment (IFE) Systems Interfaces, and Part 4 discusses the Cabin Distribution System (CDS).
This document specifies the ARINC 485-control protocol used by the Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) described in ARINC Specification 628, Part 1. The IFE/CDS Controller as shown in Figure 1-1 typically controls the head-end source units.
