On Track Machines – Design and Acceptance

inactive
Organization: LUL
Publication Date: 1 November 2013
Status: inactive
Page Count: 87
scope:

This Standard defines the requirements for the Design and Acceptance of all On- Track Machines.

The requirements for the Design and Acceptance of On-Track Plant and for Non- Rail Mounted Plant are contained in LU Standards S1173 and S1174 respectively. The requirements for the Acceptance, Use and Maintenance of all Plant are set out in LU Standard S1171.

The requirements set out in this Standard are intended to control the risks associated with the design of On-Track Machines. The risks to be controlled are those which have the potential to affect safety, the train service, the environment and the Company's business, finances and reputation.

The requirements defined in this standard apply to all sections of the London Underground operational railway, depots and sidings and to Possession Areas or other temporary work sites established in any of these locations.

The requirements in this standard also apply to On-Track Machines not intended for use in the construction, maintenance and inspection of the LU track, structures, infrastructure of fixed electric traction equipment but which by their presence or use may represent a risk to the LU train service, operational assets or staff.

The scope of this standard does not include the design or performance requirements for the working function of On-Track Machines in terms of output rate or quality. The expectation is that these requirements will be set out in the Technical Requirement Specifications used for the acquisition or the Machine.

This Standard together with S1171, S1173 and S1174 replace the following LU Standards:

  • 1-172-A1 Plant, Tools and Equipment - Performance and Design.
  • 1-173-A1 Plant, Tools and Equipment - Inspection and Maintenance
  • TE-QAS-0108-A2 Calibration and Control of Inspection, Measuring and Test Equipment.

Purpose

This Standard is one of four Plant Standards which together define the requirements for all Plant intended for use in connection with the construction, maintenance and inspection of track, structures, infrastructure and fixed electric traction equipment forming part of the LU infrastructure.

The Plant covered by the four standards is divided into groups with similar attributes and requirements. The details of these groups and the definitions for each are shown in Attachment 1 of LU Standard S1171.

The purpose of this standard is to define the requirements for the group of Plant classified as On-Track Machines.
