scope:

The requirements of this standard apply only to: (1) packaging machinery which is used to produce, decorate, identify, fill, or seal rigid or nonrigid containers or packages; or (2) packaging-related converting machinery which is used to prepare. decorate, identify, or coat packaging materials.

The machinery not covered by this standard includes plastic molding machinery. glass container manufacturing machinery. can-making machinery, and non-packaging- related converting machinery.

Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to establish safety requirements with respect to the construction. care. and use of packaging and packaging-related converting machinery. This standard is not concerned with the sanitation or quality requirements of the products being packaged or converted.
